It’s hard to get a feel for how big this is? This one doesn’t look very big. Not like the huge light house at Point Reyes National Seashore for instance. Did ya know there is a huge treasure associated with Pt. Reyes? Yep, it seems that Sir Francis Drake carreened his ship there to scrape the barnecles off the bottom. He supposedly off loaded a huge treasure that he had looted from the Spanish. Burried it and maybe never came back for all of it. He had so much treasure that it threatened to swamp the ship, so he just burried some of it. But the US Government made a National Seashore out of it…so no one would get the treasure har har.
This is a very small lens > no larger than my upper body-size. This particular lens is 4th order (I believe) and is just a display item at the lighthouse. I think it actually came from Morro Bay. The original lens used at Yaquina Bay was even smaller (5th order) and has been lost to time.
